The Art of Setting Down the Stones
We all carry the weight of things.
Some of us drag rusted chains of old betrayals behind us, each clink echoing in the quiet moments. Some carry invisible boulders of resentment across decades, as if strength is measured by how much hurt we can hold. Others tuck small, sharp stones into their pockets; moments they’ve tried to forget but can’t, the kind that jab unexpectedly during a peaceful walk.
Pain, in all its forms, is heavy. But we carry it anyway.
We carry it because we think it keeps us safe. That if we remember the sting, we’ll never be stung again. That if we keep the story alive, it will finally make sense. That if we hold tight enough, long enough, maybe justice will arrive.
But pain is not a compass.
And it doesn’t lead us home.
It burrows.
It tangles.
It weaves itself into the nervous system like ivy growing through an old fence. Quiet. Persistent. Eventually splitting the wood.
What I’ve come to believe, after years of my own unraveling and witnessing others soften in the sacred space of hypnotherapy, is this:
You were never meant to carry it all.
Forgiveness isn’t a pardon stamped on someone else's wrongdoing. It’s not a dismissal or denial. It’s a ceremony; the quiet laying down of the stone. A sacred decision to stop bleeding for a wound that is no longer yours to tend.
It’s a return.
Not to who you were before the hurt, but to the version of you that grew within it. The wiser one, the one who knows now how precious peace really is.
Letting go doesn’t happen with gritted teeth or forced mantras.
It happens when the body feels safe.
When the heart has been heard.
When the soul is invited to rewrite the story from a higher view, not from the ache, but from the altitude of Truth.
That’s what healing is.
That’s what hypnotherapy offers.
Not forgetting, but remembering who you are beyond the wound.
So if you’ve been carrying too much for too long,
If your pockets are heavy and your spine is tired,
If you're longing to feel light again...
Maybe it's time to set something down.
Even just one small stone.
You’ll be amazed how different the world looks when your hands are free to receive again.
